My Epilepsy Journey: A Lived Experience
By Memory Musendo
My name is Memory Musendo. I am 36 years old and was diagnosed with epilepsy at 21. Despite being on medication, my condition affected my family life and eventually led to divorce. Continued medical support, including medication adjustments and tests like EEG and MRI, helped me manage my seizures better.
Organisations such as the Epilepsy Resource Centre Zimbabwe (ERCZ) and the Epilepsy Support Foundation (ESF) have been instrumental in supporting me. I have learned to identify triggers such as flower scents, excitement, and fire. I urge others to take medication consistently and participate in workshops and support groups.
Living with epilepsy requires courage, understanding, and community support. I am grateful for the help I have received and hope my story inspires others to live confidently with epilepsy. Together, we can create awareness, understanding, and acceptance.
